MUSIC AND ART

Jacques Brel is the best singer I've ever heard. The song I prefer is "Ne me quitte pas"

JACQUES BREL lyrics

Francis Bacon is one of the most important painters in UK, he died ten years ago in Madrid and
he represented the new expressionist movement in Europe.

After seeing these fotographs about a singer and an artist; tell everybody who are your favourite artists ( singer, actor, painter, writer...) adding a sample of their work and the reason why you like them.

TSUNAMI by gemma aleixandre

TSUNAMI

On December 26, in the 2004, there was an earthquake four thousand meters deep in the Indian Ocean, About 260 kilometres west of the coast of Aceh (Indonesia).
I think this catastrophe is a very important fact in history, because died many people, other people were wounded and it caused a huge damage.
The earthquake took place near the island of Sumatra, Because two tectonic plates, the Australian and Eurasian clashed, caused tremors throughout the region west.
This movement in turn displaced hundreds of cubic metres of water and generated a tsunami or tidal wave. The wave then spread throughout the Indian Ocean with an enormous speed. It caused chaos. At 9 degrees. For the next 15 minutes to 10 hours occurred multiple tsunamis. They reached 15 metres high that struck across the region on the Indian Ocean coast especially devastating parts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.
In Somalia (in Africa to 4100 km.'s Epicenter) there were such abroad effects thatcaused waves that have travelled the Pacific Ocean causing unrest in the tides of North and South America.

The consequences of the tsunami were:

-230,000 people killed, about 2 million will need humanitarian aid, and about 5 million have been left homeless
-Decreased tourism in these countries
-The earthquake also caused a slight alteration on the speed of rotation of the earth and cut the length of day by three microseconds.

Abduction of my class ELENA ARPA

This story isn’t so important for humanity, but for me…is very important.

The 18th of November ,2002 (when I was eleven years old) in my old school, Casal dels Angels, at half past four, a youg boy of 17 years got in my class. They say he came to school and climbed the stairs wearing a ski mask and pulled out the knife.
When he entered the class he caught the knife and put it in as child's neck. Suddenly the English teacher left the classroom and the other children we stayed inside. We did not understand what was happening but we knew that it was wrong. Suddenly, the strange boy closed the door and threw furniture and dictionnaries to the door, breaking it. We ran to the window and saw our friends leaving the school. We were terrified. We were very frightened. We did not know the boy and he had a knife! It was horrible.
We asked for help and he shouted :" Silence! Close your mouth! " The window of the class was inside and that's why we could not see people or anyone. All were gone, and we cried and pried in the window.
Behind the door was somebody. They spoke with the boy and the boy asked them money, and half a million ptas for his family.
So we spent four hours. We saw many policemen climbing the stairs. Until that a child asked for water because he wanted to drink. Then the boy said it would leave out sixteen children in four groups of four, but in my class we were twenty children, and four children(one girl and three boys)stayed inside. The girl, my friend Judit said that he was her brother, but he said: "No no, it is imposible, me, your brother? No! "She touched his shoes and shouted his name: "Norberto, why are you doing this?"

We were coming out in groups of four and the most courageous and his sister remained inside. We came to the library and later we went out with our parents that we were expecting sad and scared in a room. Everybody was nervous because we thought the boy (Norberto)was going to hurt someone. Everyone cried and my parents too.

The last four came thanks to a police officer disguised as a waiter, brought some pizzas that the boy and the children had asked (they were hungry) and managed to enter. Our friends explained why they were very scared, because many policemen with guns came and took away the Judit's brother(Norberto).
My little brother and the other schoolmates went to IES SANTA EULÀLIA.

To sum up it was a horrible afternoon.
Finally everything went well, the newspapers and television recorded us when we left the school and everybody was welcoming us
Later we it was revealed that the boy was 17 years old and he was a former student of the school and that it had a sister, my friend Judith. The boy was sent away for 5 months into a reformatory

PANDA BEAR ANAIS COLL

The name Panda Bear of two species in the order of Carnivores: the panda minor, also called red panda, and the giant panda. They originate in China, being discovered in 1869.
The timid giant panda is often evoked as the icon of the animals in extinction. Since then, the panda became the attraction of zoos in the world (the first came to the West in 1937), which are approximately 100 copies of this bear, while another 1,000 bears pandas survive in their natural state within reserves created in the thick bamboo forests of southwestern China.
Two of the main reasons for the panda is endangered is the disappearance of their natural habitat with the felling of thousands of hectares of bamboo forests, their natural food, and the extreme difficulty of this kind to breed in captivity, basically shyness, as experts say.

Part of the reduction is due to too panda poachers.
A panda adults need an average of 14 pounds of bamboo a day, feeding process in which invests 12 hours.

THE DOLPHINS BY LAURA

-The dolphins live: Warm seas
-Dolphins Habits: Lives in groups
-Nourishment of the dolphins: Fishes
-Characteristics of the dolphins: Body in the shape of spindle. Small head. Snout lengthened in the shape of beak of duck. Very voracious and intelligents and easy to domesticate.

The main danger for the dolphins are sharks and men.
The populations of dolphins can be taken to the extinction by the fishing destructive practices and also because they are used in experiments. Others use them as way of entertainment in the water parks, but if the public find out about the process for domesticating these defenseless animals they would not spend their time seeing them.

IMPERIAL EAGLE BY ALBERT ABELLA

The iberic imperial eagle its a bird of prey daytime, large 72-83cm, very circumspect view, strong muscles and very fast flight. Its color is dark brown. It weighs 2400-3200g males and females 2900-4000g. Their size is 200cm males and females dimension: 220cm. In Spain there are 150 couples of iberic imperial eagle.

This specie is located almost exclusively in the Iberian peninsula, where dwells all year, defending his territory with great zeal. Their habitats are suitable areas of the forest esclerófilo typically Mediterranean, where they mingle scrub, grasslands and streams. The eagles built nests in the crown of cork and pine, in places difficult to access. They feed mainly on rabbits and hares.

Youngest copies can be captured by other birds of prey and foxes. The alarming decline in population is due, however, only to human beings illegally causes, like electrocution, conversion of forest areas in irrigation areas; excessive employment of pesticides, and so on. To prevent the extinction of imperial eagle, breeding centers in captivity are being created. In addiation to the habitats where imperial eagles live, there are many protected parks.

To sum up, this is what we must do to increase the population of imperial eagles.
